What is Fast-a-thon?

The Muslim Students’ Association at the University of Toledo would like to invite you to participate in our annual Ramadan Fast-a-thon on September 27th in the Student Union’s Auditorium. Ramadan, as you probably know, is one of holiest months for Muslims.  It is a month of prayer and fasting, and a season for charity and good deeds.  This year, we would like to give students the opportunity to experience (in part) the Muslim observance of fast, and to join us in giving to those in need.
This is how the Fast-a-thon works: students decide that they would like to join us in fasting on September 27th.  Then they fill out a pledge form either at MSA website or SU tables.  Participants who pledge to fast will abstain from food and drink, and as much as possible, negative thoughts and actions, from 5:45 AM to 7:28 PM.
That’s the other thing:  local area businesses will be donating a dollar for every non-Muslim who pledges to fast.  So the more people we get to participate, the more we can give to those in need.  It’s what we’ve come to call “going hungry so someone else won’t have to.” This year’s charity organization is the Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. Their mission is to enable other community organizations to end hunger.
